State College of Florida Volleyball earns a split with South Florida State College and Palm Beach State College.
Vs. South Florida State College
The Manatees won the first two sets of the match by a matching score of 25-15. The next two sets proved to be extremely close with South Florida winning sets three and four by two and three sets, respectively. With the match now tied at 2-2, both teams battled hard, and the Manatees fell short in the 5th set by a score of 15-11.
SCF received good offensive performances from Ava Turner and Aryanna Spainhower. Turner had a season-high 14 kills while Spainhower led the team with 17 kills. Defensively, the Manatees had 112 DIGS -- quite a remarkable feat. Ava Turner and Aryanna Spainhower has 20+ DIGS while Baylea LaHay had a career-best performance with 31 DIGS.
Vs. Palm Beach State College
The theme of the weekend was playing all five sets, with the Manatees coming out on top in this one by a score of 3-2. SCF fell behind 2-1 after dropping the third set. The team then rallied, forcing a fifth set after winning the fourth set by an impressive 25-18 score. In the fifth set, SCF stepped on the gas, eventually defeating the Panthers by a score of 15-5.
The offense was balanced for the Manatees. Aryanna Spainhower led the team with 16 kills. Ericka Freeman was the only other player with double-digit kills. The offense once again flowed through setter Adasyn Konopka who led the team with 34 assists. Defensively, the team received strong performances from Maya Sharp and Baylea LaHay. Sharp and LaHay combined for 38 DIGS with LaHay topping the 20-DIG mark for the second stright game on the weekend road trip. Ava Turner also turned in a strong all-around performance. Turner contributed 7 kills and 10 DIGS and has been a steady performer for the Manatees this season.
Coming up, the team gets a bit of rest on Sunday before traveling to Trinity College on Monday and then returns home for a rematch against South Florida State College on Tuesday, September 30.
