Tennis Takes Third at Nationals

Tennis Takes Third at Nationals

Tucson, Az - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) had the rankings right from the first day of the season.  All season the Manatees have been ranked third in the nation and that's just where SCF ended the season.  ASA College took first place and Tyler Junior College ended in second place.

For the Manatees, this is the second highest finish in the short history of the program.  The 2012 team finished as National Runner-Up to Tyler Junior College.

On championship day, three of the SCF players had a shot at National Championship victories.  In singles, Casey O'Toole faced Siuzanna Grigorian of ASA for the #6 flight championship.  After a hard fought battle, O'Toole was defeated and finished as the #6 flight runner-up.  The doubles team of Natella Nabieva and Amiena Houston faced ASA's doubles team Mingxiu Du and Tyler Smith.  The Manatees fell in straight sets and finished as #2 doubles runner-up.

Miranda Talbert, Amiena Houston, and Mikala Lowrance earned the chance to play in the national semi-finals on Wednesday.  While the Manatees played hard they all had their singles seasons ended with loses in the national semi-finals.

The Manatees finished the season with a 14-2 overall record.
