The Jacksonville State men's basketball team has signed junior college guard Gabriel Dos Santos for the upcoming season, head coach James Green announced on Thursday, May 1, 2014

Dos Santos, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound player from State College of Florida joins the Gamecocks after a very productive season of junior college basketball and also brings some Division I experience after playing his freshman season at Detroit in his freshman season.

"Gabe's previous experience in a Division I program and his ability to score should give us some instant help in the backcourt," Green said. "He played for a really good coach at State College of Florida that was an SEC player and understands the preparations to play at the Div. I level. We are excited to have him."

Dos Santos played his sophomore season for former Alabama point guard Elliot Washington at SCF, where he averaged 15.6 points, 4.1 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.0 steal per game for the Manatees. He shot over 42 percent from the floor and 74 percent from the free throw line.

As a freshman at Detroit, he played as a reserve guard alongside Ray McCallum, who just finished his first season with the NBA's Sacramento Kings.

Dos Santos is a native of Coral Springs, Florida, where he was a four-year letterwinner at Coral Springs High School before playing for the Impact Basketball Academy. He averaged 18 points and seven boards per contest for The Impact Basketball Academy in 2012.
