    BRADENTON, Fla.- State College of Florida's Men's Basketball program will be hosting open tryouts on April 26th from noon-2PM at Hal Chasey Gym. SCF participates at the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) Division I level. All athletes must bring a physical signed by a physician in order to participate.

    MANATEE -- For one half of basketball, the State College of Florida men stayed with the defending national junior college champions. Unfortunately, the host Manatees eventually succumbed Wednesday night, dropping an 88-61 contest to College of Central Florida (14-3), which came into the game ranked 20th nationally and third in the state. What the struggling Manatees (1-14) learned is that they could be an awfully good team if they get a few more guys to play with the energy level of Deonte Hearns. The 6-foot-6 freshman had a game-high 15 rebounds, despite going against the Patriots' huge front line, and led the Manatees with 22 points.

    SCF rallies late, but suffers 7th straight defeat BRADENTON -- State College of Florida dug itself a hole that proved a little too steep to climb out of Wednesday in dropping a 97-90 men's basketball game to Victory Rock Academyt at Hal Chasey Gymnasium. SCF trailed 77-63 with nine minutes left after the Blue Devils hit the Manatees with a barrage of 3-pointers. SCF tightened up its defense and eventually tied the score at 90 with 1:15 left on a layup by Gabriel Dos Santos. Unfortunately it was the Manatees last basket of the night.

    OCALA, Fla.- State College of Florida Men's Basketball traveled to face the current NJCAA National Champion Patriots. SCF was defeated 68-87 by College of Central Florida.

    BRADENTON, Fla.- SCF Men's basketball head coach Elliot Washington is hosting tryouts for the 2013-14 season. Tryouts will be held at the Hal Chasey Gymnasium on the Bradenton Campus this Saturday, August 24th from 3-5PM. All participants must be enrolled full-time at SCF, have proof of a physical signed by a doctor, and sign a tryout participation waiver.

    BRADENTON, Fla.- 26 SCF student-athletes earned grade point averages high enough to land on the Presiden'ts and Dean's lists this fall. President's list is for students earning a 3.8 or higher. Dean's list honors are for students with a 3.5 and higher.

    MANATEE -- Elliot Washington is home, but his journey is just beginning. When he took over the State College of Florida basketball program last summer, most of the top junior college players were gobbled up. But Washington is not feeling pressure. As a former player at the school and lifelong resident of Bradenton, he is in it for the long haul. It's important because Washington is SCF's fourth head basketball coach in four years and says the merry-go-round is over.
