Robinson is in his 8th year as the pitching coach at SCF. He was a second-round pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1975 and played 15 years in the Major Leagues with the Pirates, Giants, Angels and Phillies from 1978 to 1992. Robinson finished second in the Rookie-of-the-Year voting in 1978, his W-L record during the season was 14-6. He won a World Series title with the Pirates in 1979 when he pitched in games 1, 2, 4 and 7, winning game 2.

In 1987, he was traded to the San Francisco Giants, where he pitched in the playoffs against the Cardinals. Robinson also pitched in the famous 1989 World Series for the Giants, which was interrupted by a devastating earthquake. He finished his Major League career with an overall record of 109-106 with 57 saves and a 3.79 ERA in 1,958.1 innings pitched with 1,251 strikeouts. Robinson also won three Silver Slugger Awards as the best hitting pitcher in the National League and had 13 career home runs.
