Bradenton, Fla - State College of Florida Manatees baseball won its home opener tonight, beating Florida State College of Jacksonville (FSCJ) 6-1. Starting pitcher Taylor Cockrell picked up his first win of the season, tossing 5 shutout innings, allowing only 3 hits with 8 strikeouts. SCF opened up a close game with a 5 run 7th inning highlighted by an RBI single from Jose Lopez and back to back hit by pitches with the bases loaded to Mitch Piatnik and Brantley Bell. Four SCF pitchers combined to strikeout 15 FSCJ hitters. SCF is now 4-1 on the season.
The two teams play the second game of the three game series, at 2:00 on Saturday February 7th.
